In een biotoopaquarium worden planten en vissen gehouden voor zoet- of zeewater, waarbij de inrichting zo natuurgetrouw mogelijk wordt gemaakt. De natuurlijke leefomgeving (biotoop) wordt op deze manier zo goed mogelijk gekopieerd.
